Identify Pipelines Near Your Farm or Ranch
If you have a pipeline right-of-way on or near your farm or ranch, it is important that you identify the exact location of the pipeline before chisel plowing, tilling, sub-soiling, terracing, installing fence polls or initiating any type of deep excavation activity.
Pipeline markers are located along the pipeline right-of-way, at road and railroad crossings and at all above-ground facilities. They identify the general location of the pipeline, the specific products transported, the operator’s name and the emergency contact number. Pipeline markers do not identify the exact location or depth of the pipeline.
In addition, the federal government provides access to maps that show the approximate location of transmission pipelines in your community. To view maps, visit the online National Pipeline Mapping System.
